SUMMARY: Corolla Community’s Plan
In the fall of 2017 at a monthly CCA member meeting it was suggested that CCA organize the community leaders to develop their vision for how the Occupancy Tax revenues should be spent to attract tourists and grow the tourism industry in the County. Several work sessions of business and community leaders were held to discuss ideas for a plan. A small team worked to integrate the ideas into a draft plan that was reviewed by the membership. Cost estimates for the various elements of the plan were developed based on discussions with the business community and County staff. After three months and with participation and review by over 100 community members a final plan was approved to share with the County. The plan was given to the Commissioners, the County Manager and County Tourism staff with a request to have a formal meeting to discuss the plan. Despite positive feedback from some County staff the County manager refused to set up a discussion.
Here is an overview of the Plan. In the other sections under the CCA Plan the details for each of th major elements are explained in more detail.
The full 67 page Appendix contains all the details. This was sent to the Commissioners, County staff and community members. It was discussed in an open meeting on Feb 22, 2018, and approved to send in final form to the County and request a meeting to discuss.
The County refused to meet, although we heard from several staff that they thought the work was in good detail and worth consideration. But none was given. Below is an email from staff remarking on the depth of work.
